Dear Friends

MTOB_DTD_600600_72

Metallic Taste of Blood‘s Doctoring The Dead is now available as CD Digipack, Single Vinyl 180gms and multiple download formats, both in the real world and across the web!

from the press release:

“Metallic Taste Of Blood, the instrumental math-rock/outer rock unit lead by Italian guitarist and soundsculptor Eraldo Bernocchi and Australian bassist Colin Edwin is back with a vengeance, joined now by legendary drummer Ted Parsons, whose earlier ventures included Swans, Prong, Buckethead, Godflesh and Killing Joke, and British keyboard player extraordinaire Roy Powell, whose recent work includes Mumpbeak, InterStatic and Naked Truth.

The vigor and inventiveness which characterized Metallic Taste Of Blood’s first release still sits center stage, a natural outflow of the band founder members’ very wide palette of musical experiences/collaborations and individual talents, spanning an incredibly rich vocabulary which extends from ambient and electronica, to progressive rock and avant-jazz, to noise and industrial electronics, all firmly anchored by the deep and precise dub beats laid out by Ted Parsons, sparkled, on select tracks, by the surprising keyboard inventions of Powell.

This variety of influences and musical idioms manifests itself in a very specific kind of sound, one that is now characteristic of the band, one which is predicated and thrives on the very notion and practice of the contraposition of opposites. The music of Metallic Taste Of Blood is both incredibly brutal and delicate, distorted, but incredibly clear, boiling hot and yet suddenly very cool, sweet yet suddenly brackish, that very peculiar unity in contradiction to which the band’s own name refers to.

Doctoring The Dead, recorded in Prague at Faust Studios, mixed in Italy and mastered in the US by Mike Fossenkemper, though moves ahead towards new territory by bringing in a new, focused single-mindedness; witness to this are the album’s eight tracks, starting with “Ipsissimus, ” where an deep dub rhythm section supports the entangled duel of baritone electric guitar and synth, to “Pashupati, ” whose guitar lines dance between extreme cleanliness and growling distortion, to the cosmic Ambient Bass inflections of “Synthetic Tongue, ” to the calming riff and distorted electronica of the title track, to Blind Voyeur‘s beyond-post-rock grandeur, the dark ambient glitch of “Day of Bones, ” and further down to “Murder Burger” and beyond, towards the closing “Death Of Pan.”

Out of contrast perfect balance is reached, when distorted guitars sound clean and soothing, while cascades of piano notes suddenly morph into threatening shards – listening to this will lift you into a state not unlike that of cognitive dissonance, one of deep, uncomfortable enjoyment.”

Enjoy!

Dear Friends

2014 has started swiftly, and we would like to take the opportunity to offer you all a peek at the releases we have prepared for this year. This year’s release schedule will be very intense and will feature two releases per monthly cycle

End of February/Early March:

We start with TWINSCAPES (RNR037 and RNR037LP) ,  an album imagined and moulded by Colin Edwin and Lorenzo Feliciati  after an impromptu gig in London in Spring 2013.  The two master bass-players called upon trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer, saxophonist David Jackson of Van Der Graaf Generator, percussionist Andi Pupato of Ronin and Roberto Gualdi, drummer of Italian Prog Rock legends PFM. TWINSCAPES was mixed by none other than Bill Laswell in Orange Studios, NJ. Official release date for the album is March 7th.

The three Scots, Rebecca Sneddon on alto sax, Colin Stewart on bass and Paul Archibald on drums were discovered by Eraldo Bernocchi mid 2013 – once signed they headed over to Gorbal Studios in Glasgow in September 2013 where they re-recorded their two first EPs and a new full length album (The Awakening of The City) due out in 2015. The Double EP and the next full length album were mixed by Eraldo Bernocchi. Official release date for the album is March 7th

End Of March /Early April:

The second release cycle will see two magnificent recordings being concurrently released, both with an official release date of April 7th (pre-orders will start March 4th)

SONY DSC

We will start with ELEC3CITIES (RNR038 and RNR038LP), the new album by Italian piano trio CHAT NOIR (Michele Cavallari on piano, multiple keyboards, analog synthesizers and effects, Luca Fogagnolo on electric bass, upright bass, guitars and effects and Giuliano Ferrari on drums and effects).

By organically and masterfully blending elements of Electronica, both Ambient and Concrete Music with structures arising out of chamber music and jazz, this innovative has come up with a wholly unique sound on Elec3Cities that may establish a daring new direction for the format. The delicate balance of electronic experimentalism and acoustic piano jazz has been evolving gradually from the group’s initial release in 2006, Adoration, and continued on 2007’s Decoupage through 2008’s Difficult to See You and 2011’s acclaimed Weather Forecasting Stone. But the three Italian musicians take it to a wholly new level on Elec3Cities, their most overtly experimental outing to date and debut for the London-based RareNoise label.

Recorded  in Jamie Saft’s Potterville studios, this record presents itself as an entrancing, psychedelic organic voyage. It establishes psychedelia as one of the columns of contemporary free music, and is both mind blowing and incredibly subtle.

End of May /Early June

The two releases slated for late May/early June are:

a. INDIGO MIST (RNR043 and RNR043LP), a collaboration between the Cuong Vu Trio and electroacoustic composer Prof Richard Karpen. This is an incredible release – a study in the organic interaction of man and machine, musicians and patches. The result is a suite of incredible subtlety and smooth complexity, simultaneously a hymn to jazz canons of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn and a nod to compositional structures of contemporary electroacoustic masters. More News soon

b. INTERSTATIC‘s new album “Arise“(RNR042 and RNR042LP). The trio of Roy Powell, Jacob Young and Jarle Vespestad have worked hard on a new incredible release to follow on the self-titled debut album (RNR026) released in 2012 on RareNoiseRecords. The result is masterful ROCK’N’ROLL album. More News soon

Pre-Orders of these album will go live on the RareNoiseStore early May  as CD Digipack, Single LP 180gms (shipping from around March 31st, e.g roughly a week from release date), .mp3, .flac and 24bit/96Khz HD .flac digital. End of September/Early October

September will see the release of

a. a quartet by WADADA LEO SMITH, JAMIE SAFT, JOE MORRIS and BALAZS PANDI (RNR044 and RNR044LP). We have listened to the first mixes and can vouch to the fact that it is magnificent. More News soon

b. the new OBAKE recording (RNR045 and RNR045LP)by Eraldo Bernocchi, Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari, Jason Köhnen and Balazs Pandi. Utterly breathtaking and terrifying abstract metal grindcore from the masters. More News soon

End of October

Final release of the year will be MOLE’s new recording “RGB“(RNR046 and RNR046LP), follow up to “What’s The Meaning?” (RNR027) they released on RareNoiseRecords in 2012.  Mark Aanderud (piano) and Hernan Hecht (drums) are joined here by Stomu Takeishi on bass. SPELLBINDING More News soon

2015

2015 will be a year of further surprises. Currently on the books

a new SLOBBER PUP (after 2013’s “Black Aces“) but this time with Mats Gustafsson on horn,

a new Merzbow, Gustafsson Pandi with special guest Thurston Moore,

a new METALLIC TASTE OF BLOOD with Ted Parsons on drums,

a new FREQUENT FLYER (by Lorenzo Feliciati with Steve Jansen on drums),

a new PLANET MICROJAM (by David Fiuczynski) with Rudresh Mahanthappa
